A man wanted in connection with a shooting in Mansfield was arrested Monday in Galion after an investigation that led officers as far away as Marietta. The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force, acting on a tip, arrested 23-year-old Steven Sanderfer at a Galion hotel on Portland Way North.
Sanderfer was wanted for the Aug. 7 shooting of Gerrice Stallworth. The Task Force investigation led officers to Wooster, Columbus and Marietta in search of Sanderfer, but recent information caused them to believe he had returned to North Central Ohio.
Sanderfer was arrested by the Task Force and officers from the Galion Police Department, but a woman believed to have been helping Sanderfer fled Pizza Hut when she saw the police presence. Law enforcement officials also found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the hotel room at the time of Sanderfer’s arrest.
Galion police are handing the drug investigation and are expected to file charges against the unnamed female.
