BUCYRUS—Daniel Renner,26, of Shelby, pleaded guilty to 20 counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, each fourth-degree felonies, and each punishable with up to 18 months in prison.

In January, Renner was deemed competent to stand trial after he was examined by a District V Psychiatrist.

In a negotiated plea agreement, 10 of the original 30 counts were dropped. Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold agreed to the plea negation but had some serious remarks before sentencing:

“These are very serious charges. This sort of activity has no place in our community. By engaging in it, downloading, and owning it, you support a market for this, which results in children being exploited sexually. This is a horrific thing that unfortunately goes on way too often in our country and throughout the world. If there weren’t people looking at this stuff, there wouldn’t be a market to create it. While the defendant did not create these photos, by possessing them, it is helping to fuel a market out there that involves the exploitation of children.” Leuthold said.

Leuthold sentenced Renner to 6 months in prison on each count for a total of 120 months (ten years) in prison. He is now a designated Tier II sex offender. Renner will have to register in person every six months for the next 25 years with the Sheriff of the county in which Renner resides. He will receive 307 days of jail time credit.
