BUCYRUS — Nicholas McIntyre, currently an inmate at the Marion Correctional Institution, was returned to Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Thursday.

McIntyre, 31, was in court to be sentenced on two counts of assaulting a police officer, both fourth-degree felonies and each punishable with up to 18 months in prison and one count of failure to comply, a third-degree felony punishable with up to 36 months in prison.

He is currently serving a 12-month prison sentence for violating the terms and conditions of his community control. McIntyre encountered two deputies at Wendy’s in Galion and attempted to flee because there was a warrant for his arrest for a probation violation.

As McIntyre tried to flee, he hit and injured the two deputies. A high-speed chase ensued through Galion and McIntyre was eventually captured.

Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold told McIntyre he looks much healthier than when he was sent to prison.

“The truth is that if you hadn’t been on meth, you wouldn’t have committed this crime. If you would have let them arrest you, you were facing 12 months in prison,” Leuthold said. “But you were all methed out and decided to try and outrun law enforcement. You caused injuries to two deputies and put the entire city of Galion at risk because they had to chase you down. You’re a young dude and when you’re not high you’re fine. But when you’re high, everything goes to hell.”

Leuthold sentenced McIntyre to eight months on each count of assault and 36 months for the failure-to-comply charge. Those sentences will run consecutively to the current sentence of 12 months for a total of 64 months in prison. He also suspended driving privileges for ten years.

“There’s an old saying Mr. McIntyre: If you play stupid games you win stupid prizes. Now you’re going to prison,” Leuthold said.
