BUCYRUS — Shaun Rice, 34, of Bucyrus was returned to prison Monday after being on judicial release for only 40 days. Rice pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control.
Represented by attorney Sebastian Berger, Rice was charged with use of meth, methamphetamines and amphetamines. Rice overdosed on September 18. He was revived with a Narcan shot administered by Emergency Services personnel.
Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler asked the court to impose the original 36-month sentence for a third-degree felony of domestic violence. Berger noted that Rice suffers from depression and asked the court to consider placing him in the Volunteer of America program.
Judge Sean Leuthold imposed the sentence.
“Over the years you have been in a lot of trouble, but I had a soft spot for you,” Leuthold said. “This is a violent crime and it would be unfair not to impose this sentence.”
Steven Conner, 25, of Galion was sentenced to 24 months in prison after he admitted to two counts of trafficking in drugs.
Conner appeared in court with his attorney Grant Gaverick. Before sentencing Conner, Leuthold had a simple warning.
“Stop selling drugs in Crawford County.”
Sheena Jarvis, 30, of Tiro was sentenced to 48 months in prison. She pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of her community control. Jarvis was placed on probation after two convictions of trafficking in drugs in 2016.
According to the newest charges, on August 19, Jarvis tampered with evidence, a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 36 months in prison. Jarvis attempted to submit another person’s urine for testing with her probation officer and then failed to provide a urine sample when required to do so. Jarvis also admitted to using Gabapentin without a prescription.
Leuthold sentenced Jarvis to 24 months on the tampering with evidence charge and imposed 12 months of prison on each count of drug trafficking committed in 2016.
