The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the people involved in Sunday evening’s fatal accident on U.S. 30.

Seventy-seven-year-old Eugene Bergner of Loudonville was the individual who was hit and killed trying to retrieve his dog which had gotten loose when he and his passenger, 80-year-old Barbara Hamilton, stopped in the eastbound lanes of the four-lane highway east of Lincoln Highway exit to let the dog out.

The driver of the minivan which struck and killed Bergner and his dog was 43-year-old Douglas Obanion of Mansfield.

Dr. Grant Hope declared Bergner to be deceased at the scene.
