Last week’s drug busts may have sent a message to drug traffickers attempting to operate in Crawford County but Friday’s arraignments sent an even bigger message.

County prosecutor Matt Crall requested a $550,000 bond for 23-year-old Kevin James of Marion, one of three people to be arrested on Dec. 18 in Galion as a result of an extensive investigation. Crall said the steep bond was in light of the fact that James had over 50 grams of heroin on him at the time of his arrest. Municipal Court Judge Sean Leuthold, however, raised the bond to $1 million. James had been charged with a first-degree felony drug possession.

Twenty-seven-year-old Danielle Davis, who had also been arrested as a result of the search warrant, had bond set at $150,000 despite her length record. Davis had been charged with a fifth-degree felony drug possession.

The third person arrested from Thursday’s drug bust, 23-year-old Daevon Gray, was not charged.

James, Davis, and Gray had been apprehended during the initial search at 539 S. Boston St. in Galion. During the search, officers seized over $3,000 in cash, a 9mm assault rifle, an air-soft gun that appeared to be a handgun, a large quantity of suspected heroin, other undetermined drugs, drug paraphernalia, and surveillance equipment.

A similar trafficking investigation took place in Bucyrus on Wednesday and also resulted in three arrests.

Thirty-one-year-old Tyler Fulton, who had been charged with fifth-degree drug possession, had bond set at $300,000. Fulton does have a previous felony on his record, a felony three burglary conviction from 2010.

Thirty-year-old Andrea Sheppard had been charged with possession of heroin and trafficking in drugs. Leuthold set a $50,000 bond on the drug possession charge and a $150,000 bond on the drug trafficking charge.

The Bucyrus trafficking investigation took place at 117 Fisher. St. where heroin, syringes, money, and suspected stolen property were seized.
