A man trying to save his dog was struck by a minivan and killed on U.S. 30 Sunday evening in Crawford County. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the victim or the driver until their families have been properly notified.
Sheriff’s Office personnel, LifeStar Ambulance and members of the Jefferson and Whetstone township fire departments responded to the first call which came in at 8:15 Sunday evening.
A man and his female passenger had pulled over for an unknown reason on U.S. 30 east of Lincoln Highway in the eastbound lane. The couple’s dog got loose and the male entered the highway to retrieve the dog. Both the man and his dog were hit and killed by a minivan.
The highway was closed for approximately two and one-half hours. The accident does remain under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
