Press Release

Volunteers will gather nationwide and at one of three Crawford County parks Oct. 26 to take part in the nation’s largest day of community service: Make a Difference Day. From 9 a.m. to noon, projects will be underway at Lowe-Volk Park, Heckert Nature Preserve and Unger Park including clearing trails, building bridges, cleaning and repairing buildings.

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Gannett Foundation, the Crawford County Park District was targeted for cleanup because of its continuing contribution to the community and these efforts will enhance the quality of the parks we enjoy here in Crawford County.

“Make a Difference Day is an iconic day of national volunteering,” said David Williamson of the Crawford: 20/20 Vision. “It’s what the Vision is about—volunteering and investment of our time and money in things that make a difference in our community.”

Park District Director Bill Fisher credited Crawford County volunteers with the Park District’s overall success since its inception. This year’s Make a Difference Day will move local parks forward and provide long-lasting benefits to the community, he added. Though teams are in place at each location, more help is certainly needed. “With a large cadre of volunteers, it will be possible to upgrade trails, remove invasive plants such as honeysuckle and build new structures such as picnic tables,” Fisher said.

“The Crawford County Park District is world-class and it’s right here at home,” Williamson added. “On October 26, we’re going to give it some well-deserved TLC!”

Make a Difference Day in Crawford County is sponsored by The Telegraph-Forum, its owner Gannett Company Inc. and USA Weekend. Call 419-563-1809 or email michellef@crawford-co.org to find out more, or to volunteer.
