BUCYRUS—The seniors at the Crawford County Council on Aging are not letting a pandemic stop them from having fun and participating in new experiences.

According to Activities Coordinator Courtney Moody, nearly 20 local seniors attended the program at the Council on Aging on South Spring Street in Bucyrus on Tuesday that included a visit from two horses

“Pure joy would be the best way to describe Tuesday’s horse presentation at the Crawford County Council on Aging. Tiffany Derr of Derr Family Farms out of Wharton, Ohio, brought two horses to meet local seniors,” said Moody.

She said Frenchie, a 4-month-old pony that just won third place competing at the 2020 Palomino World Show in Springfield, Illinois, and her mother, Chicky, brought smiles to a crowd of faces.

“Seniors were able to get close, pet the horses and feed them chopped apples. Frenchie had never tasted apples before and didn’t care for them, still young and recently weaned off momma’s milk,” said Moody. “Her mother Chicky enjoyed the apples almost as much as the seniors enjoyed feeding them to her.”

The Council on Aging’s final animal program of the year will take place at 1 p.m. on Oct. 9 and will feature alpacas from New Beginnings Family Farm in Galion.

To register to attend, seniors should call the Council on Aging at 419-562-3050 Opt. 4 to speak with activities coordinator Courtney Moody.
