BUCYRUS―From common New Year’s resolutions to major life changes, residents throughout the area are ready to take on 2019.

One Bucyrus man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he is battling a drug addiction that he has been able to hide from family and friends.

“My resolution is to get off the drugs and get clean. I want to be happy and healthy again,” he said.

Tara Schiefer can relate and is celebrating three and a half years in recovery.

“My New Year’s resolution is to continue my sobriety from heroin and all other drugs and alcohol,” said Schiefer, who has been clean since June 25, 2015. “I also want to continue my weight loss, so I can get healthier.  I have already lost over 40 pounds since last September.”

Schiefer credits the Alpha 12 Step Recovery Program offered in Crawford County by John and Margie Maddox in helping her stay off drugs.

“I completed Margie’s program and attended every meeting she had to offer,” said Schiefer.

Bucyrus resident, Julie Light-Cooper, will concentrate her energies in 2019 to helping others.

“I want to help the group that is trying to address the homeless in Crawford County,” said Light-Cooper.

Colonel Crawford graduate Beth Powers Gatrell said she failed to keep her resolution last year.

“I want to make it a point to send more cards and letters through “snail mail,” said Gatrell.

Debra Lewis will head to a local animal shelter this year.

“I’m going to get a dog from the dog pound to try to save a life,” said Lewis who also wants to lose weight.

Two local men are set to publish their first books in 2019.

Tom Locke of Crestline said he is determined to finish his book, “What Ever Has Become of Cecil McBain.”

“I want the world to find out in ‘19 what really became of Cecil McBain,” said Locke.

While local musician and business owner, Bob Davis, is focused on publishing his book, “The Rockstar and the Muse,” in 2019, he is also committing to better health.

“The action I started today was a nerdy log book to record and document all my unhealthy habits,” said Davis.

He said he wants to do everything he can to make the necessary changes to become healthier but the task will take serious mental fortitude.

“I hate to lose so I am committed to trying,” said Davis.

While Bucyrus resident Amy Eulett wants to pay off her debt and buy a house, she is also thinking of others.

“I pay it forward on a regular basis. It is something that just melts my heart,” said Eulett.

Ron Bailey said he wants to start appreciating life more.

“I want to appreciate the things I have. I need to realize I am very blessed and I’m going to try hard to be a better Christian,” said Bailey.

Michelle Pickett Coleman said she wants to read more books in 2019.

“I want to walk more and read more books,” said Coleman. “I just found a tub full of my favorite books I thought I’d lost when I moved. I’ll start there!”

Greg Leonhardt of Leonhardt’s Auto Sales in Bucyrus said he has the same resolution every year. He, like many others, does not make New Year’s resolutions.
