GALION – The broadcast tower for radio station WFXN-FM 102.3 “The Fox” was not able to weather the Labor Day storms that spawned an EF-2 tornado.
The tower, located on North Market Street south of US 30 in Galion, completely collapsed. A separate tower for the long-silent WGLX-AM 1570 also sustained damage, but remained standing.
No one was hurt in the collapse.
WFXN originally signed-on November 8, 1974 as WQLX. The station is now owned by iHeart Media and operated remotely from iHeart’s studios in Mansfield. The towers themselves are leased out by Vertical Bridge Holdings, LLC in Boca Raton, FL.
