BUCYRUS—Bucyrus native Russell Hunter has penned a book and recorded CDs in the past and recently released his latest album.
He has been playing the guitar and writing music since he was a teen and was inspired by his father’s love of music and his early death.
“I was dealing with anxiety and depression. To deal with the loss, I began writing down my feelings which turned into songs. I had lost a piece of me but the music helped me to feel whole again,” said Hunter, who is now a husband and father of two daughters.
He wrote a book of poetry titled, “Path of Pieces,” in 2008 and has recorded other CDs, including “Echoes of My Soul.”
His latest release, “Heart on My Sleeve,” is available worldwide on over 150 streaming services and features other local musicians.
“I poured my heart and soul into this album, hence the name,” said Hunter. “I went very deep with the lyrics on this CD. Music and songwriting allow me to get out every emotion with every single note.”
He said he is hoping to touch the heart and soul of others through his music on the CD that also features Bucyrus-based saxophone player and pianist Dave Miller.
“There are seven songs on the album that was produced and mastered by Brandon Bowles. Steve Ramsey (known as Ramjet to his friends) plays percussion on the song, “Lost in Space.” It was a group effort and I am very pleased with the results and I hope everyone else enjoys it too,” said Hunter.
The CD can be accessed through several platforms, including Apple Music by clicking here and on iHeart Radio by clicking here.
“Knowing I can be real with myself through lyrics and music and search for a better form of me with each passing note, with every single word, is humbling and empowering,” said Hunter. “Music for me is more than fame and money, it’s just who I am. An outcast, a loner, a soul searcher through the dark to find a brighter light, searching for a reason we belong and a reason to stay strong.”
