BUCYRUS―While many local residents are Black Friday shopping, business owners are gearing up for Small Business Saturday on November 30.
Missie Striker of Castle Auctions, Appraisals and Coin Shop is ready for the annual event.
“Small businesses are important because they support the community,” said Quincy Jones, one of two interns, along with Cherokee Morrison, who is working for Striker.
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 during the recession that began in 2007 throughout the country. It is part of the Shop Small Movement through American Express to encourage people to shop at their small, local businesses to create a thriving community. It is always held on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving Day.
There are several ways residents in each community in the county can support their local businesses, such as grabbing a bite to eat at a locally owned restaurant, getting a haircut at local salon or barbershop or shopping for unique Christmas gifts at a local boutique.
Jessica Furner, director of the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce, said it is important to support local businesses.
“When you shop local, you not only support hometown businesses, you are supporting local families: your friends, neighbors and the community while strengthening our own economy,” said Furner. “Happy Small Business Saturday!”
