BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—First Federal Community Bank is urging the public to stay vigilant against digital scams during Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October.
Kate Bogues, Community Marketing Manager at First Federal Community Bank (FFCB), highlighted what the bank calls the “I-shing family”: phishing (fake emails), smishing (suspicious text messages) and vishing (scam calls). Bogues noted that the goal of these attackers is always the same: to create a false sense of urgency and compel users to share personal data.
“Anything that feels urgent, that is your first red flag,” Bogues said. “Real companies don’t want to pressure you like that.”
The bank is providing resources on its website, including a printable guide on how to spot scams. FFCB is also covering a new online safety topic each week in October, including strong passwords and MFA (multi-factor authentication), device and Wi-Fi safety, and protecting seniors and children from scammers. The month’s campaign will conclude with a “Don’t Get Tricked” Halloween-themed wrap-up.
