To better hone their players’ skills for the field the Bucyrus Little League held a grand opening of batting cages at Aumiller Park Saturday.

While the idea for a batting cage had been mulled around in the past, it wasn’t until this year that enough funds were raised for the practice facility.

“The previous board ten years ago that was a project they wanted to do down below. They wanted to do a batting cage, and it just didn’t come to fruition. So this was kind of finishing what they had started basically,” Bucyrus Little League Baseball board member Scott Langenderfer explained.

Bucyrus Little Leaguer Kael Scott was pleased with the opening of the cages in Buyrus.

“They’re good, it’s better than driving down to Marion to use their cages,” Scott said.

Currently the batting cage is only open to Bucyrus Little League players and coaches; however the cages could be opened to other teams in the future.

Langenderfer said, “At this time we are working on the logistics, but we would like to open this up to the other teams, but if a team would like to rent it out we will open it up, and one of our board members will be there to help out.”

The batting cages were designed by Whiteamire Architects in Bucyrus.

The hours for use of the batting cages are from 4 to 9:30 p.m. with set schedules for the teams.
