BUCYRUS―People searching for a good bargain are making their way down County Road 330 in Crawford County to take advantage of the hundreds of garage and yard sales as the Lincoln Highway Buy-Way kicked off on Thursday.

Bonnie Gilliam of Bucyrus enjoys the annual sale that runs through Saturday.

“It’s always fun to see people and friends and catch up,” Gilliam said, who found great deals and even purchased an area rug for her kitchen and a comforter for her spare bedroom.

Although many people enjoy being on the purchasing end of the sales, several would rather make some extra money by selling items they no longer need or use.

“We have had a sale every year but one since the Lincoln Highway Buy-Way began,” said Art Rank as shoppers milled around the many tables in his yard on County Road 330, east of Bucyrus.

This is the fourteenth year for the Buy-Way sales that are touted as Ohio’s longest yard sale.

“I enjoy doing the yard sale every year because I get to visit with local people I have not seen in a while and meet new ones for many different cities and states,” said Art Rank’s wife, Pat.

Ron Hocker is the brother of Historic Byway Executive Director Mike Hocker and sets up his array of antiques and primitive farm items in the yard of the Rank’s home each year.

“We offer a large variety of various antiques and primitives. We specialize in farm primitive. We look forward to this sale every year and meet so many different people” said Hocker. “It is fun to hear people’s stories of what they use different items for and what they are looking for this year and why.”

Samantha Steele set up shop in the yard of her aunt’s rental property near the corner of East Mansfield and Lane Streets.

“This is the third year we are participating in the sale but it’s the first time we set up here at this property,” said Steele.

Steele said she sells items she and her family no longer need.

“We have several different types of items for sale including Pure Romance products. My aunt used to sell it and has a lot of stuff left over,” said Steele.
