BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On March 12 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a field fire in the area of State Route 98 and Stevens Road. This fire burned approximately 2 acres of a pasture near a home and outbuilding. A quick-fire attack was able to slow the spread of the fire while additional units arrived and assisted in extinguishment. The Tiro-Auburn VFD, New Washington VFD, Life First Ambulance District, and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
Later that day, at approximately 6 p.m., a passerby reported a barn fire in the area of 4252 Stetzer Rd. When crews arrived, they discovered active fire in two outbuildings and a nearby pasture. Both structures were not able to be saved due to the progression of the fire. Crews remained on scene until approximately 8:30 p.m., and the cause of the fire is not known at this time. The Holmes Township VFD, Tiro-Auburn VFD, Whetstone Township VFD, Life First Ambulance District, and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
Liberty Township Chief Rick Harley would like to thank all departments that assisted at these two scenes and remind everyone that each year the State of Ohio issues a ban on ALL outside burning for the months of March, April, May, October, and November between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. He would also encourage anyone interested in joining the fire service to contact their local volunteer fire department.
