Dear Editor,

Voters Rights

First of all, every eligible person under the law has a basic legal and fundamental right to cast a
ballot. Don’t be denied this freedom that has been given to you. Many people forget to check
your voting status with the County Board of Elections; maybe you changed your address, got
married, divorced, or haven’t voted for a year or so. Make sure that you make these necessary
changes before April 7, 2025 with the Board of Elections. For the high school students (voting
age), make sure that you fill out a voter registration card. You can ask your government
teachers or contact the board of elections if you meet these requirements.

Secondly; when you are going to vote, you have three choices in the Primary Election. The
Republican Party, Democratic Party and Nonpartisan (Independent). Nonpartisan voting is for
issues only during the primary election, but not in the general election. During the primary
election, you have to declare with one of these when you vote this May 6, 2025.

Next; one thing that most voters don’t understand, if it states on the ballot that you vote for 2 or
3 individuales out of all the candidates running. You don’t have to vote for the top 2 or 3 people
running for that office. Matter of fact, you can vote only for who you want to vote for. If you only
want one person and leave the others blank, that is your right. Voters don’t have to vote for that
office or even any person at all, if that is the way you feel. By leaving blanks on the ballot, you
are basically stating that you didn’t want them to get your vote. It sends a clear message to
these candidates that some people didn’t like you or wanted to vote for you.

Remember, whatever you want to do, it is between you and the machine and no one else
So: Get Out and Vote, let your voice be heard. Questions, please contact the Crawford County
Board of Elections 112 E. Mansfield St. 419-562-8721.
