BUCYRUS — A man has been arrested after a standoff in a residential neighborhood in Bucyrus on Tuesday afternoon.
Discussions with the man’s mother led to the discovery the man is diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Walker identified the man as Curtis Cox, an Iraq War veteran in his 30s.
Cox was taken to Bucyrus Community Hospital. Walker said he then will send Cox to be committed for a mental health assessment. No criminal charges are being filed at this time.
Cox has no criminal history, according to BPD.
“There’s no honor in hitting a war veteran with criminal charges. I just want to help him the best I can,” Walker said. There were no weapons found in the residence other than a few pocket knives.

According to Bucyrus Police Lt. Tom Walker, the original call referenced a man in the middle of the street on Home Circle Drive wielding a lightsaber.
Cox acted as if he was going to hit and officer and the officer activated a taser on the man which was unsuccessful. The man then ran into his residence at 1314 Home Circle Drive.
During the standoff, officers did not know if Cox had any weapons or if anyone else in the house at the time.
The Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service were with the Bucyrus Police Department on the scene.
The OSHP Special Response Team was en route when the standoff ended.
Walker thanked the other responding departments for their assistance.
