The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was a hub of activity Wednesday afternoon, but not for any nefarious reasons.

Judge Sean Leuthold swears in Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent for his second term in office.

With Scott Kent being elected to a second term, it was time for the sheriff and his deputies to be sworn in for the upcoming four-year term. Deputies, dispatchers, and the auxiliary unit gathered in the roll call room at the Crawford County Justice Center to be sworn in by Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold.

Kent, performing his administrative duties, passed out paperwork while those in attendance awaited Leuthold’s arrival from the courthouse. In a moment of law enforcement humor, a deputy cried out “all rise” as word made its way down the hall that Leuthold finally freed himself from courtroom duties to perform the ceremony.

Kent took the oath of office first then was followed up by a majority of the department’s staff and auxiliary unit. Those not able to attend the initial oath of office were given an opportunity later on to do so.

Kent oversaw and his department assisted in a number of drug busts in his first four years as sheriff, and he plans on continuing the work they have accomplished.

“Just continuing to improve the living conditions around the county, addressing the drug issue and reducing the crime in the area,” he said about the upcoming years.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office consists of 65 full-time employees and 20 reserve deputies.
