GALION — There is a new face on the Galion City Council.
Kara Ault was sworn-in as the newest member of the council on Dec. 23 by Galion Law Director Thomas Palmer and received encouragement and congratulations from Mayor Tom O’Leary and several city officials.
Ault was selected from a pool of six people who applied for the position, including Eric Webber, Heath Watkins, Catherine George, Don Diosi, and Paula Durbin.
Ault is excited to begin her one-year term on the council.
“ I pride myself on being an effective listener and am eager to learn and grown in this position to better the City of Galion,” she said.
She interviewed for the position after Gail Baldinger resigned his seat as a Council-at-Large member to fill the City Auditor position that was left vacant when Brian Treisch resigned several weeks ago.
Ault, the Assistant Operations Director for Abilities in Action, brings years of diverse experience to her new position. She is a lifelong resident of Galion and has served the city as Vice President of the city of Galion’s Health Board. She resides on Cherry Street and also serves on the board of Chrysalis Advantage Point in Bucyrus.
“The current council members have been so welcoming,” said Ault.
When asked what Kara’s vision for the city is, she said “I want to grow with the city in this position. I’d like to listen to represent the views and ideas of all Galion residents. I am looking forward to what we can achieve together.”
Galion City Council voted five to zero for Ault to fill the vacancy on council during the regular meeting on Dec. 23. Her term will expire on Dec. 31, 2021, along with the other six seats on the council. All positions will be on the ballot in November of 2021.
