The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has taken numerous calls today in reference to scam and fraudulent calls.

The calls are mostly coming from the phone number 323-284-5627, which originated from California. The caller is claiming to be with the federal agencies, including the IRS and the United States Treasury Department. The caller gave the name of Steve Martin and stated that there is a judgement against the person they are calling. The caller reported that it is their second warning and if action isn’t taken, the person will be arrested.

This type of calls are scams. The Sheriff’s Office recommended that if you receive any calls of this nature, do not give any of your personal information, credit card numbers, or banking account numbers out over the telephone.

The Bucyrus, Galion, and Crestline police departments also reported Thursday that residents were receiving calls from people claiming to be from the IRS.

If you feel you have been a victim of a scam, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency. Call the Bucyrus Police Department at 419-562-1006, the Galion Police Department at 419-468-9111, the Crestline Police Department at 419-683-2222, or the Sheriff’s Office at 419-562-7906.
