BUCYRUS — A local insurance agent made a donation to the Crawford County DARE program to help area students.

State Farm agent Nathan Hinesman made a $500 donation to the DARE program that serves eight area schools.

The Crawford County DARE program provides education to Buckeye Central, Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Crestline, Crestline St. Joseph, Galion, Sacred Heart and Wynford.

I think anything we can do, especially now that there are less interactions between kids, I think anything we can do to help guide them and give them direction for when they are alone and help them make good decisions,” Hinesman said. “I think the younger we do that, the better our community is long term.”

Crawford County Sheriff’s Office deputy and DARE program coordinator Chris Martin said the funds will go toward programs for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The programs include safety for the elementary-aged students and decision-making for middle school students.

The funds also will assist with DARE program graduations and a DARE rally the program hosts for all the sixth-grade students.

“I just want to thank Nathan for doing this,” Martin said. “A lot of people don’t realize, any amount of money goes directly to the program and every penny counts.”
