SANDUSKY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post is currently investigating an injury from a plane crash that transpired just before 11:30 a.m. on Friday near Kelleys Island Municipal Airport.
According to preliminary findings, the incident involved a single-engine Cessna 177 Cardinal operated by 69-year-old Craig Reese from Liberty Township, Ohio.
The aircraft crashed while attempting to take off westbound, landing on the ground without causing damage to any other property.
Both Mr. Reese and his passenger, 67-year-old Robin Reese, also from Liberty Township, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
They were promptly transported by air ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo for treatment.
Responding to the scene, the Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from the Kelleys Island Police Department, Kelleys Island Fire Department, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA has been notified of the incident, which remains under active investigation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
