BUCYRUS—Independent candidate petitions to run in the general election in November were due to the Crawford County Board of Elections Office on Monday by 4 p.m. and several people made the deadline.
According to Ruth Leuthold, director of the Board of Elections, all potential independent candidate petitions must meet the requirements.
“The board has to review and certify them by July 15,” said Leuthold.
She said the potential candidates will have to wait until mid-summer to find out if their petitions are certified.
The following people submitted independent petitions by the deadline on Monday:
Adam Frizzell and Brian Seybert for Bucyrus City Council President. The position is currently held by Kurt Fankhauser who has already filed as a Republican to run for re-election in November.
For Bucyrus City Council-At-Large, voters will be able to elect three people to fill the seats. Two Republican incumbents, Kevin Myers and Mark Makeever, have filed to run for re-election. Independent petitions were filed by Robert Kalb, Marc A. Shultz, Robert E. Taylor and former council member Dan Wirebaugh.
For third ward council member, Bradley A. Seibert has filed as an Independent. The position is currently held by Independent Doug Foght who is not running for re-election in November.
James D. Mee, who is currently a council-at-large member, has filed as an Independent to run for Bucyrus City Council’s Fourth Ward along with Steven D. Young. Lisa Alsept currently holds the position but is not running for re-election.
