BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Requests for at-home COVID-19 test kits have surged recently at local health offices. In response to this growing demand, the Bucyrus & Galion Avita Health System is reminding the community about its Harm Reduction Vending Machines, which are conveniently located outside the emergency room entrances of their facilities.
These vending machines, available 24/7, offer a variety of free health supplies, including COVID-19 test kits, naloxone (Narcan), fentanyl test strips, and condoms. The machines are restocked at least twice a week, typically on Tuesdays and Fridays, ensuring that the community has consistent access to these essential items.
Funded through a grant, the initiative aims to provide free resources that help reduce the risk of overdose deaths, as well as the transmission of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other diseases. Since the installation of the vending machines in October 2023, inventory tracking shows significant distribution of health supplies: 3,030 doses of Narcan, 2,072 doses of Kloxxado, 18,330 male condoms, 5,332 at-home COVID-19 test kits, 7,490 fentanyl test strips, and 1,210 female (internal) condoms.
Residents are encouraged to utilize these resources to promote their health and safety.
