GALION — When families in the Galion community needed help this holiday season, others took action.

Through the Ohio Heartland Community Action of Crawford County Christmas Program, approximately 200 children will receive presents this week.

OHCAC director Tammy Crabtree said multiple Galion-area residents, businesses and churches adopted families in Galion to help support them this holiday season.

Organizations who adopted families included St. Joseph Catholic Church, Christ United Methodist Church, Galion Elks, First Lutheran Church, First United Church of Christ, Girl Scout Troop 1919, Galion Mason Lodge, Galion Women of the Moose, Galion National Honor Society, St. Paul United Methodist Church and anonymous individuals.

Crabtree said special thanks is needed to be given to St. Joseph parishioners who collectively adopt 100 children each year.

She also said recognition needs to be given to Elliot Machine Works which made a monetary donation for Christmas after donating 30 turkeys at Thanksgiving.

Crabtree said it is an honor to serve the local community and thanks all who participated in helping the area youth.
