In the old nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle Diddle” the cow jumped over the moon; Thursday morning at the Fair it was a different story. Cows strutted their stuff at the Junior Fair Dairy Show.

Different classes of dairy cows were on display for judging with numerous grand champions being awarded by class. However it was Kyle Hudson’s Senior Division Holstein taking home overall Grand Champion. Hudson explained his favorite part of raising the champion cow.

“I would say my favorite part is being around them every day; taking care of them,” Hudson Said. “You really just can’t beat being out with the cattle every day. It runs in the family and just got to keep it going.”

Taylor Lutz took Reserve Champion with her Jersey Holstein Cow.

In the Jersey Holstein category Lutz took Grand Champion, as well as Reserve Champion for her Jersey Spring yearling. Lutz explained her favorite part of raising the cattle.

“Jersey basically just same as any other heifer really,” Lutz said. “Feed them special feed different than beef cows, make sure they are doing okay with their breeding process, and other than that it’s pretty much it. Make sure they have water and a place to exercise.”

“Getting to know her, and training her in everything she is done, and making sure she is clean every day,” Bauer said.

Senior Holstein and Junior Holstein champions, Hudson and Bauer, squared off in the arena with Hudson taking the Holstein Category’s Grand Champion. Hudson then had to face Lutz with her Grand Champion Jersey Holstein for the overall Grand Champion for the Dairy Show.
