A fire broke out in a garage on West Mansfield Street in New Washington late Monday morning and caused damage to two homes.
According to New Washington Fire Chief Dick Ackerman, the two homes share a narrow drive and the fire began in a garage. The house at 311 West Mansfield Street was occupied by James Arnold and his family.
Ackerman said the other home which is believed to belong to Elizabeth Lewis received the brunt of the damage.
There has been no report of the cause of the fire or a monetary estimate of the damage. Ackerman said an investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office was in Tuesday evening to investigate but no results of that investigation were immediately available.
