GALION—At this month’s Northmor Board of Education meeting, treasurer Gina Deppert spoke on House Bill 1, which according to statenews.org, states, “local governments and school districts are estimated to lose $1.2 billion annually to pay for the 2.75% flat tax and the property tax changes in House Bill 1, according to its Republican sponsor, freshman Rep. Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon).”
“I think a lot of superintendents, treasurers, and board members will be going to Columbus to protest against this recommended bill because it would mean a decrease in revenue for our district —it’s approximately 10% of a reduction for class one and class two taxpayers, so that’s our residential, agricultural tax class, as well as our commercial tax class. In addition to that, an additional 10% increase in our homestead back-payments that we receive from the state of Ohio,” Deppert said. “Through simulations, this could be a $104,000 annual reduction in revenue for us.”
The board approved the FFA members to attend the 2023 National Land Judging Contest in El Reno, Oklahoma, from May 1-5.
Dan Meadows reached out to superintendent Chad Redmon, wanting to put dugouts on the youth baseball/t-ball fields. Before proceeding and giving consent, board members wanted to see plans with dimensions and materials ahead of time. Members preferred chain-link fences on a concrete slab with a roof so that during the school year, kids can’t hide in there during recess.
The board approved the managed internal broadband services service order for 101 wireless access points to maintain internet within the district buildings.
The resignation of teacher Susan Brafford was approved for the end of the 2022-2023 contract year.
The next board meeting is April 18 at 5:30 p.m.
