It was time to open up the show ring on Thursday at the Crawford County Fair as five counties were represented at the District 9 Holstein Show.
Showmen of all ages from five different counties were able to bring their cattle to the open class competition and to have a judge’s opinion passed on their animals, despite the fact that none of them were a part of an official group, but independent owners.
There were multiple categories in the show, including heifers, yearlings, and different age groups for both. Each cow had its name and birthday featured in the program and, in the end, KK Hudson Jake Alli shown by Kyle Hudson was named Junior Grand Champion and the Junior Reserve went to Brookview Amazing Grace, shown by J. Garrett Havens.
Garrett Havens, who is from Tiffin and took home a championship, said that he knew he had a good calf.
“Well we just came here, we had good calves. (We) just wanted to show them and see what we could get out of them,” Havens said. “We tried our best to get them in here and tried to get them high, tried to get them to look good.”
The Reserve and Grand Champion overall went to Kuk Land Damion Chandra and Hardys Goldwyn Magenta, respectively, both of which were owned by Matt and Megan Lawson.
