Stories and music from a bygone era were on full display at the Bucyrus Train Station Saturday for the annual Hobo Days.

Hobo Days had beautiful weather to experience simple living and fine entertainment featuring music from the Hobo Band, as well as stories of life riding the rails.

Ohio Tom, a direct descendant of a Hobo named Mike Curtis, was enjoying sharing stories of his father in the office of the train station.

“Dad, during the Depression when he got out of High School, he didn’t have anything else to do, there’s nothing to do. So him and his buddy, Bill Hemmingway, they first bought an old Model T and drove it down south, and drove it down to Alabama to sell it which they thought they could make big money at, but they didn’t but that’s OK. They took the money that they got from it and rode freight trains for the summer.”

Hobo Days also featured numerous vendors, some selling food such as kettle corn and bratwurst, while other vendors sold arts, crafts and other items.

Candi Christian was enjoying the Hobo Days event with her family.

“I think it’s great, my girls and I come out here with my soon-to-be son-in-law and we just love it because you have different vendors here and they have a lot of live music. And then then the other thing is, is you get to see some of our heritage because of the Railroad Stations and things and it helps you think back way back when there were Hobo’s and Tramps and things like that. And you know it’s just of a free spirited type thing that the Hobo’s were because they would go from town to town, they would work, they just didn’t have one spot to call home so their home was on the Railway and stuff, so I just think this is great.”
