The Humane Society Serving Crawford County is doing a bit of early spring cleaning when it comes to its committees.

Humane Society Director Victoria Carmean recently released a list of committees under the umbrella of the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. Though the committees will be staffed by members of its Board of Directors and the Executive Board, the Humane Society is also looking for volunteers willing to bring new ideas and energy to the committees.

In the past, some of the committees never met but those days will soon come to an end.

“We need to change that in order for our shelter to become a dynamic organization that can hold its own in today’s shelter environment,” said Carmean.

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the Humane Society and its committees should contact Carmean or Board President Tricia Breighner by email at cchs@crawfordhumane.com or call 419-562-9149.

A list of Humane Society committees can be found below:

Audit and Finance – Chaired by the Treasurer, this committee is essential to the financial future of the Humane Society. This committee typically meets one or two times a year unless a financial crisis arises.

Bingo – This committee is in charge of the largest source of income to our shelter. There are several key people, without whom we would not have a bingo game. Members of this committee will participate in the weekly games and your input will give the game direction and keep it running. If you could just commit to one game a month, either in bingo or in the kitchen it would give the key people a night off and keep them rejuvenated.

Membership and Education – This committee works at developing membership opportunities. The educational component should be developed to teach all age groups about our shelter, spay/neuter and other aspects of our mission statement and community involvement.

Legislation – This committee includes all board members and is concerned with all aspects of the Humane Society’s constitution and by-laws.

Nominating – Chaired by the Secretary, this committee is to bring eligible candidates for election to the board of directors at the annual meeting in November. This committee also suggests members for the executive board.

Disaster – Chaired by the Humane Agent or Deputy Agent, its main function is to be involved with disaster preparedness for the county’s livestock and companion animal population.

Training – This committee is involved with the training center and its programs.

Policy – This committee aids in the development of shelter policy and implementation.

Nursing Home Visits – This committee works with area nursing homes to develop programs to bring companion animals into facilities to interact with the patients.

Fund Raising and Special Events – Chaired by the Shelter Director, this committee develops and executes the four major fundraisers and any other special events. An event chairman for Puttin’ on the Dog, Paws Walk Pet Festival and 5K, Hogs for Dogs, and the Santa Paws Bazaar will be enlisted to plan and run the event from start to finish. This committee also helps in any other special events that come up during the year.

Shelter – This committee is involved in the workings of the shelter, from animal health to sanitation to maintenance of the building and the grounds.

Bake Sale – This committee plans, asks for donations and executes the Bake Sales that we hold throughout the year.

Technology – This committee is involved with social media, our website and the production of our newsletter.
