BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—During his address to the Bucyrus City Council on Tuesday regarding funding for the Bratwurst Festival, Festival Board President Adam Heinlen called for the immediate resignation of Councilwoman Carolyn Shireman.

Heinlen expressed his concerns about Shireman’s actions, stating that she had contacted him on social media and then proceeded to contact his personal employer multiple times, insisting on discussing the Bratwurst Festival.
Heinlen strongly condemned Shireman’s behavior, labeling it as an overstep of personal and professional boundaries and a form of harassment by an elected official. He emphasized that such actions were unacceptable, particularly from a member of the city council. He demanded a formal apology from Shireman and her immediate resignation to uphold the council’s integrity.
After concluding his remarks, Shireman spoke to Heinlen to clarify that she did not consider her actions as harassment since she was unable to speak directly to him during the calls to his employer. Shireman said that both times she called his employer, she was told he was out.
Heinlen reiterated that contacting his employer for a non-work-related matter was inappropriate.
Despite being advised by Council President Kurt Fankhauser not to discuss the issue further, Shireman defended her actions and refused to apologize, leading to unresolved tension between the parties involved.

Subsequently, Crawford County reached out to Shireman via email for her response to the situation. Shireman wrote:
“When it comes to Adam Heinlen and his comments, they speak for themselves. Fact is that Adam was nervous and was reading his “prepared” speech. He was very untruthful on many things he stated. My thought would be this, doesn’t anyone in the public eye speak the truth? What is the festival afraid of or hiding? I would think that would be a legitimate question!”
