The Heartland 4-H Club will host a spaghetti dinner on May 15, 2016, from 11a-2p at Wynford High School. Proceeds will benefit Landon Miller, a club member, and the Lykens Volunteer Fire Department.
On March 28, Miller was seriously injured in a golf cart accident. He suffered facial injuries, fractures, and a concussion. Miller was life flighted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he stayed for several days. While he is expected to make a full recovery, he has a long road ahead of him. His family incurred numerous medical bills as a result of his accident.
Lykens Volunteer Fire Department responded to Miller’s accident, as they do for all emergencies in the community. Funds raised from this spaghetti dinner will go directly toward the purchase of advanced first aid kits to assist department members in responding to emergencies like Miller’s in the future.
Gwen Ruth is a 4-H member in the Heartland Club who is assisting with the planning. “We are helping others inside and outside our 4-H club through the spaghetti dinner,” Ruth says. “4-H is about head, hands, heart, and health and using them to make ourselves and the community better. Landon is a Cloverbud in our 4-H group and the fire department always needs supplies for emergencies to help families. This project is one way we can give back.”
4-H member Brooklyn Gebhardt agrees. “4-H has taught me to help others in our community. Our community service projects and some times even the funds we raise support the people around us. This dinner is one example of how we are able to help others in times of need.”
The menu for the dinner consists of spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread, brownie, ice cream, and drink. Tickets are $7 a person and are available at the door.
