As last week only proved all too well, the cold weather season is upon us and frigid temperatures can settle in at a moment’s notice. The Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission, which covers Crawford and Marion counties, is once again administering the Winter Crisis Program known as HEAP.Crisis Program, Ohio Heartland community Action Commission,

HEAP is a heating assistance program that may provide a one-time payment toward a utility and/or bulk fuel service for those who meet program eligibility standards. The program began Nov. 1 and will continue to operate through March 31.

Program applicants must have with them at the time of their appointment:
• Proof of income for the previous thirteen (13) weeks or seven (7) pays if paid bi-weekly.
• Both primary and electric heating bills.
• Proof of disability (If applicable)
• Social Security Numbers for all household members
• Copy of Lease agreement or Rent Receipts (If applicable)
• Picture ID of primary applicant
• Confirmation number (Provided by the automated phone system when scheduling appointment).
• For individuals who receive child support or unemployment benefits must bring this documentation with them at the time of their appointment
• If claiming zero income, must provide written documentation
• If claiming living off of school grants applicant must provide educational clarification.

Those eligible for assistance must have a gas or electric utility that has been disconnected or is in disconnection status; a utility service that needs started; or 25 percent or less supply of bulk fuel. That applicant must also have a household income at or below 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines.
