SHELBY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Pioneer Career and Technology Center is starting the new school year with excitement and momentum as several major initiatives take shape.
Superintendent Greg Nickoli shared that the district is finalizing its expansion project, which has created additional spots for students in the welding program and will eventually allow the addition of an electrical trades program. Pioneer is also proud to introduce a new First Responders Program, giving high school students the chance to explore careers in firefighting and EMS. In addition, the first Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) class will complete training through Pioneer’s Adult Education Department in early December.
Nickoli said he is especially excited to welcome another outstanding group of students this year. “Our Senior class promises to be very accomplished, and our Junior class comes to us with great promise. Additionally, we are enhancing our efforts to ensure that every graduating Senior knows their ‘E.’ Our goal for this year is for every Senior to be employed, enlisted (in the military), or enrolled in a post-secondary program prior to graduating next Spring.”
Tradition is also an important part of the Pioneer experience. Special events like Pastries with Parents (scheduled for September 26, 2025) and Senior Celebration (planned for May 8, 2026) continue to bring the community together and highlight the achievements of Pioneer students.
Parents and community members are encouraged to stay engaged with Pioneer’s programs. Nickoli explained, “One of the best ways to support us is to think of Pioneer students when you need help with projects or are looking for a skilled workforce. Please call us with ideas for projects in all of our communities.”
For staff, Nickoli emphasized pride and purpose. “I’d like the staff at Pioneer to remember that they are part of a world-class education and training program. They should be proud of the work they do every day and the students we have the privilege of working with.”
His advice to students was simple but powerful: “Take advantage of every minute you have to learn from both your career-tech and academic instructors. They are dedicated, highly skilled professionals and have a lot to offer our students.”
With expanded opportunities, proud traditions, and strong community connections, Pioneer Career and Technology Center is looking forward to a school year full of growth, success, and hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for bright futures.
