The Bucyrus chapter of the Guardian Angels revealed plans for the up and coming year during a meeting Sunday afternoon at Bucyrus City Hall.

During the meeting chapter leader Robin “Toro” Michael revealed that after March 30 the Bucyrus chapter of the Guardian Angels will be introducing the Junior Angels which will promote anti-bullying in schools.

“This year we are rolling out the Junior Angel program, and we are going to try to get the kids involved and have a new insight and a new outlook on life,” Michael said about the initiative.

Bucyrus Police Chief Dave Koepke addressed the Guardian Angels at Sunday’s meeting.

koepke and angels“We need people to care,” Koepke said. “What is an angel? An angel watches over you and you are the vehicle for that. Angels you are making a difference whether you know it or not. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do.”

Police Chief Dave Koepke wasn’t the only person to thank the Gaurdian Angels as Judge Sean Leuthold addressed them as well.

“When I was growing up and watching movies, movies had the same plot in that there would be a hero and a damsel in distress. Then the Batman TV show came on and suddenly it was the hero that was in distress, but he would find his way out of the situation,” Leuthold said. “When the opiate epidemic hit the city was like the damsel in distress, but the state and the federal government didn’t come to save us. We had to become like Batman. you guys are trying to get rid the community out of the situation.”

Leuthold finished by saying, “Not everyone will shake your hand and thank you for your help, but you are the batmen.”

The Bucyrus chapter of the Guardian Angels also plotted out a few of the year’s events while at the meeting. On March 30 the Guardian Angels of Bucyrus have been invited to help maintain a first aid station at the Toledo M.S. Walk. On April 4-5 from 1-5 p.m. the group will help assisting the Bucyrus Fire Department with a fire detector drive. On May 4 new recruits for the Bucyrus chapter of the Guardian Angels will graduate. June 20 the group will help furnish refreshments as well as first aid for the bicycle riders. The Angels will help patrol the Bratwurst Festival, as well as Labor Day weekend.
