BUCYRUS—The Bucyrus City Council met for a regularly scheduled meeting in Bucyrus City Council Chamber on Tuesday with Council President pro tem Bruce Truka Presiding.
Council received a letter from the Bucyrus Public Trustees announcing the resignation of Trustee Casie Grau. The board asked council to appoint Edin Spradlin as her replacement. The matter was referred to the Economic Development Committee.
Council voted to not conduct public zoning hearings regarding the annexation of the residence of current City Law Director Brian Gernert because Gernert’s residence does not border any private residential property a public hearing is not required.
Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser announced that the city has been awarded two grants. The Ohio Public’s Works Commission awarded a P grant of $180,000.00 to be used for the completion of the Nevada water line.
A $50,000 grant was awarded to the Park District to expand the walking path across the Friendship Bridge to the west. It will connect with Unger farms. The work will also assist in easing maintenance issues associated with the land around the paths. Mayor Reser noted that many residents enjoy the paths.
Trash pickups in Bucyrus have been scheduled for the Christmas and New Year holidays. City Offices will be closed on December 24th and 31st. Trash will be picked up on the following Monday after each holiday.
Mayor Reser shared that Crawford County has the third-highest rate of Covid outbreaks in the state. Avita hospital is currently at capacity. He urged the community to double down and continue to follow protocols including social distancing and sanitizing in spite of what he called “ Covid Fatigue.“
Councilmember C. Aaron Sharrock announced that any community member interested in giving school-age children books for Christmas can pick up free books at Echo Trend in Bucyrus. Since the closing of Wynford Intermediate Library, more than 4000 books have been donated to the community.
