The effects of shutting down the federal government have reached into North Central Ohio with the announcement of furloughs at the 179th Airlift Wing at Lahm Airport in Mansfield.
The furloughs have hit Air National Guard members including base commander Colonel Gary McCue and assistant commander Colonel Michael Howard. Also receiving furlough notices are full-time civilian technicians.
Those still on duty are members of the Active Guard Reserve. Operations at the base are currently being overseen by acting base commander Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Tack.
A Saturday and Sunday drill for 800 Air National Guard members was scheduled for this weekend at the base. It is not known yet if that event will be postponed.
