Promising an evening of food and family entertainment, Woodlawn United Methodist Church will host a barbeque dinner and concert on Saturday.

The event, which was spearheaded by Bill Denton, will feature entertainment by the Dover High School Steel Drum Band as well as local group United in Harmony.

Denton explained that the barbeque will be going to a good cause.

“We are calling it our local mission, locally; we are doing a local mission, and so let’s collect some money for the Alpha Program. But at the same time let’s do it so people can donate and have fun, so we don’t have a tin cup. We are having a barbeque and we are earning the money so to speak, and the people of the community can come and have a good time,” Denton said.

Organizers are asking for donations of $8 for adults and $5 for children 3-11. Children under 3 will be able to eat for free. All of the proceeds will go towards the Alpha 12 Step Recovery Program.

UHDinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Patrons can choose between a BBQ pork sandwich and BBQ beef sandwich. Sides for the dinner include potato salad, baked beans, Cole slaw, drinks and deserts will also be available. The Dover High School Steel Band will take stage at 6 p.m. with United in Harmony following at 7:30. The public is welcome to attend.

The entertainment doesn’t just stop with the barbeque dinner Saturday as on Sunday pianist Timothy Noble will give a free concert at 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Methodist Church.
