The United Way of Crawford County honored not one, but two volunteers during its annual meeting and celebration Thursday night at the Galion Community Hospital.
Tyler Glowaski and Adam Knapp were both named Volunteer of the Year for the 2016 campaign.
Glowaski received his honor for setting up a competition between the six county schools’ football teams. The competition pitted them against each other to see who could bring in the most school supplies, which were then donated back into the community. Glowaski spoke about what it meant to win the award.
“It is great. I wasn’t really expecting that,” Glowaski said. “It was a really fun project to do, and it really opened my eyes what United Way can do, and how someone my age can give back and the impact that we can have directly.”
Knapp, who is usually seen at numerous events for the United Way and other non-profit agencies in the county taking pictures, was awarded for just that.
“I am honored and excited about it. I honestly wasn’t expecting it at all. I was just happy to see that,” Knapp said. “I didn’t know how I was going to take a picture of myself, being that I was the one doing the pictures. So, it was kind of funny that I got awarded with that.”
Sara Beegle Child Day Care Center was named as the Agency of the Year for her work with youth education. The Spirit Award was given to Donley Ford for their donation of a two-year lease of a 2017 Ford Escape to the United Way organizations of Ashland, Crawford, Knox and Richland Counties to help raise funds for their 2017 United Way campaigns. The Thanks-A-Million Award was awarded to the Eighteen-O-Three Taproom, Tiffany Fox, and Firelands Federal Credit Union. Mark Burke was honored as the 2016 United Way Board Chair.
Companies honored as the 2016 Outstanding Companies were Gledhill Road Machinery Company, Arctic Cat, Inc., The National Lime & Stone Company, American & Ohio Locomotive Crane Co., Inc., and FC Bank.
Upcoming events for the United Way of Crawford County include the May Lottery Contest, the United Way Day of Action on June 21, Purse Bingo on Sept. 16, and Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28.
