The Board of Preserving Galion History, LLC (PGH) and the PGH Advisory Committee announced Friday, July 11, 2014 the kickoff of an intense and urgent fund raising drive. Their goal is to raise $20,000 by September 30, 2014 to pay a mortgage to allow the restoration of this historic home to continue.

The money raised by this effort will pay the first of two mortgages due on the house. This is critical to save this center of Galion’s history. Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and many key figures in the history of Galion and the United States visited the house at the corner of Gill Avenue and Harding Way West. This historic building was designed by noted architect Louis Kamper, and is the only Kamper home in Ohio. Kamper was the architect for the Book-Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan.

PGH plans to restore the house, including the original columned porch and use the historic structure for meeting rooms and offices for community and service organizations.

Plans for the fund raising include mailings, email communication and social media. Additional events will be held on site starting with a Yard Sale on August 2, 2014.
