A collision on Wednesday between a subcompact car and a Mack truck in Marion County’s Salt Rock Township resulted in the death of a Galion woman.
The State Highway Patrol reports that 39-year-old Sherri Smith was killed when her vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo, was traveling east on Marseilles-Galion Road shortly before noon and failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Ohio 423. Smith’s vehicle was struck by a 2013 Mack truck driven by 47-year-old Fred Farmer of Marion.
Smith was declared deceased at the scene by Marion County coroner Dr. Marc Comianos.
Smith was not wearing a safety belt. Farmer was wearing a safety belt and was not injured.
Toxicology reports are pending, but alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident which remains under investigation.
