A woman died after being trapped in an apartment fire Friday evening.
The Galion Fire Department was dispatched at 5:23 p.m. to 81 Cedargate Court for a report of a structure fire. According to the fire department’s report, the crews found a multifamily dwelling with moderate smoke and fire involvement on the end apartment upon arrival.
Sixty-five-year-old Sherry Barker was trapped in the fire and subsequently died on scene. She was later transported to Lucas County for an autopsy.
The Crawford County Coroner’s Office and the State of Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist in the investigation, which at this point remains undetermined.
Moderate damage was sustained to that one apartment only with preliminary estimates being $5,000 in property damage and $4,000 in content damage.
