Every new school year brings with it the addition of new faces. One of those new faces for the next school year in Galion will be that of the district superintendent.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2015, members of the Galion City School District board of education were informed that current superintendent, Mark Stefanik, had accepted an offer to become the superintendent at the Currituck County School District in North Carolina. Stefanik will begin his new position Dec. 1.

“This was an opportunity to return to the school district that gave me my first teaching position right out of college,” Stefanik said.

Board of Education President Jennifer Kuns understands this is a great opportunity for Mark and his family to return to a former district.

“Mark has done a good job during his tenure as the leader of the Galion City Schools,” Kuns said. “We have already begun the process to identify our next steps in finding the new leader of our district.”

“There are two opportunities in conflict with each other, and that’s the toughest part,” Stefanik said. “I have loyalty to the district that gave me my start in education, and I feel a loyalty to Galion because they gave me my first superintendent opportunity.

“We have started many good things in Galion focused on student success, and I hope the district leadership will continue to see these programs through to full, successful implementation.”
