NEWS RELEASE:

GALION – Students from the Galion City School District spent the days leading up to their Christmas break spreading holiday cheer around the Galion community.

Galion National Honor Society officers, Ashlie Sallee, Teresa House, Bri Streib and Allie Awbrey, each adopted a family through Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission. They organized members of the NHS into 4 teams, who purchased and wrapped the gifts to present to four local families in need this holiday season.

“This is one of the mandatory group service projects that the organization participates in each year,” said Tena Eyster, National Honor Society co-advisor. Students from the Galion Primary and Intermediate Schools visited area nursing homes. Students sang Christmas carols to the residents at each of the facilities.”

“This is an annual event our students participate in to help bring smiles to the elderly in our community,” said Alex Sharick, Intermediate School Principal. “I’m proud of the students and staff for giving back to our community.”

Students in Ms. Paula Prince and Mr. Jon Stinehour’s classes delivered gifts to the residents of Signature Healthcare. This is part of the yearlong community service project being conducted by the two classes.

“The students enjoyed shopping at the local dollar stores for the Signature residents,” said Ms. Prince. “They enjoyed singing carols to the residents and delivering the baskets of gifts and the blankets they helped make in loving memory of Richard L. Logan.”

“The giving spirit of our students and staff is incredible,” said Jim Grubbs, Galion Superintendent. “I’m so proud of all the community service being done throughout our district, especially during the holiday season. I’d like to wish the entire Galion community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
