It is no secret that reading is the backbone of success in school and life. The Galion Primary School is putting a spotlight on reading during its annual Right to Read Week activities through May 15.

This year’s Right to Read Week theme is “Shore Do Love Reading,” and will feature different beach-themed activities to help encourage Primary students to read. The daily themes throughout the week include:

  • May 13 – Beach Towel to read
  • May 14 – Silly Sunglasses
  • May 15 – Popsicles

“Every year, our students really enjoy the different activities for Right to Read Week,” Primary School Principal Cindy Voss said. “Studies have proven that reading is the backbone of success in life, and our teachers and staff do a tremendous job working with our students to help each one become a better reader.”

While the Primary School is shining a spotlight on the subject this week, reading is a year round focus for the school. Each month, Primary School students are encouraged to read at home with parents and record their reading minutes. Students who accumulate the most reading minutes monthly have an opportunity to earn special rewards.

“We encourage our students and their families to ‘Dig into Reading’ every month,” Voss said. “It takes a team effort between our staff, the students and their families to improve students’ reading abilities, and we are hopeful that our families will read with their students during Right to Read Week.”
