The Galion Police Department has been made aware of a possible telephone scam occurring with some residents and businesses in Galion. The caller claims to be associated with the Galion Utility Department and advises the resident or business that they are delinquent on paying for their utilities and that they will have their utilities shut off if they do not pay by phone with a credit card. This is not the way the City of Galion operates the Utility Department.

The City of Galion only notifies a resident or business of possible disconnection of utilities by mail. The City does not telephone their clients to tell them about a delinquent bill nor do they demand payment over the telephone.

If you should receive a telephone call from someone demanding payment for City utilities with a threat of termination of services, immediately hang up the telephone and under no circumstances should you give the caller your credit card information or any other personal information. If someone comes to your residence or business and demands money in lieu of termination of services, immediately contact the Galion Police Department at 419-468-9111.
