GALION―A Galion man is in jail after a stand-off with law enforcement in Galion on Tuesday.

Officers were called to Galion East Apartments, 1300 Harding Way East, around 4:30 p.m. after a message was received by an employee of Community Counseling from Dwayne D. Rowalt. The message stated he was going to attempt suicide by cop. Police officers were advised by someone in the apartment building that Rowalt was in possession of knives.

Galion Police called in for assistance by the Crawford County Special Response Unit and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. The apartment building was evacuated and EMS was placed on standby and staging was done at the Galion Police and Fire departments.

Through a third party, Rowalt advised he would come out but would have a knife in each hand. He exited the building but then went back inside, locking the door to the building.

Rounds of gas were used to force Rowalt to exit the building. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the Crawford County Justice Center to be held for court.
